KUALA LUMPUR:Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has apologised to Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for the actions taken by the BN state assemblymen in Perak last week.
The UMNO president's apology was conveyed to Muhyiddin who is also president of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) in a meeting in Parliament on Wednesday.
PAS President, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang also attended the meeting.
During the meeting, the three leaders of UMNO, PAS and Bersatu also reached an agreement to propose Kota Tampan ADUN, Datuk Saarani Mohamad as the new Perak Menteri Besar.
The matter was informed by Bersatu Secretary-General, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin; BN Secretary-General Tan Sri Annuar Musa and PAS Secretary-General Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan in a joint media statement signed by the three of them today.
"The presidents of Bersatu and PAS and the chairman of Barisan Nasional accompanied by the secretary-general of the three parties today held a discussion on the formation of the Perak state government.
"In the discussion, the Barisan Nasional chairman (Ahmad Zahid) has conveyed an apology on behalf of the Perak BN ADUNs for the mistake that occurred.
"In the spirit of consensus of the Perikatan Nasional, the three parties have agreed to propose YB Datuk Saarani Mohamad as the new Menteri Besar of Perak to be consented by the Sultan of Perak," the statement said.
Meanwhile, discussions between the three top leaders of the parties have also reached a consensus on other appointments in the state government.
All the party leaders, said the statement, also agreed to further strengthen cooperation between the parties in the PN government in Perak and also at the national level for the sake of political stability and the well-being of the people.
The crisis in the formation of the Perak government erupted after its Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu failed to gain support in the motion of the House members' confidence in the Menteri Besar in the State Assembly (DUN) last Friday.
In the vote on the motion brought by Datuk Abd Manap Hashim (BN-Pengkalan Baru), Ahmad Faizal from Bersatu only got 10 votes compared to 48 who rejected while one abstained.
Following that, Ahmad Faizal resigned as Menteri Besar together with the entire line-up of the State Executive Council Members.
