KUALA LUMPUR: Sixteen dancers will compete in Malaysia's first Breaking E-Battle national championship on Sunday, for a chance to represent the country at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
The Malaysia Dancesport Federation (MYDF), in a statement today, said the two best dancers from the championship to be held virtually would get to represent Malaysia at the WDSF (World DanceSport Federation) Breaking World Finals on Dec 4, which is a qualifier for the Paris Games.
According to MYDF, the 16 competitors for this Sunday's final round were selected from 116 dancers who recently participated in the preliminary rounds which were conducted virtually through video recordings.
The 16 qualifiers are Lego Sam, Kid Inn, Sora, Kid G, Neolil, Chigga and Jayson of Kuala Lumpur; Jun, Match Q, Geecy and XF of Johor; Jmike and Airz of Sarawak; Pitt Den of Penang; Khenobu of Sabah; and Kidkiat of Selangor.
The breakdance championship will be telecast live on YouTube UNC TV at 8 pm.
The International Olympic Committee last December announced that breaking, which is a form of breakdancing, would be making its debut in the 2024 Olympic Games.
