The adjournment of the Malaysian Hockey Confederation's (MHC) Annual General Meeting (AGM) was in line with a directive from the Sports Commissioner's office to ensure the right procedures are followed in the new constitution.
Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin he welcomed the call by MHC president Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah to postpone the AGM.
"I personally contacted Tengku Abdullah to inform him of the decision made by Sports Commissioner, Datuk Zaiton Othman, and he understood the situation because the Sports Commissioner's office is a government agency that is responsible for constitutions of sports associations.
"The president understood why the Sports Commissioner had made such a decision because the decision was correct from the point of law and the MHC regulations," said Khairy after closing a workshop for the development of sepaktakraw in the country in Seri Kembangan, near here today.
Tengku Abdullah was reported to have asked the AGM and Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) scheduled on Friday to be cancelled following weaknesses in the amendment of the MHC constitution.
He had also suggested the AGM and EGM to be held in May.
On Feb 6, Zaiton was reported to have declared the MHC constitution that was tabled and accepted at an EGM in Johor Baharu on Oct 13, as null and void due to failure in procedures and lack of quorum.
