Allocation for the preparation of Paralympic athletes in view of the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Paralympics will be from the National Sports Council (NSC) and not from the RM50 million allocated during the 2013 Budget said Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek.
Shabery said the RM50 million allocation announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak when tabling the 2013 Budget on Sept 28 was for the 'Road to Rio' programme over a four-year period.
"The 'Road to Rio' for Paralympic athletes does not include the allocation under the 2013 Budget and we will seek for a bigger allocation for NSC.
"When the NSC has a bigger allocation, I am sure there will be enough funds for the preparation of Paralympic athletes," he told reporters after the Sports Ministry's monthly meeting here Monday.
Shabery had earlier handed out cash rewards to two Paralympic athletes -Hasihin Sanawi and Muhamad Ziyad Zoklkefli - under the Athletes Incentive Scheme (Shakam), for their achievements at the 2012 London Paralympics.
