ALMA Juniku will be making her debut on the biggest stage of her career against one of the best Muay Thai athletes in the roster.
On 15 June at the Baoshan Arena in Shanghai, Juniku is set to introduce herself in her ONE Championship debut.
Two-sport world champion Stamp Fairtex will welcome the young Australian, as the Thai warrior princess defends her ONE Atomweight Muay Thai World Title in the main event of ONE: LEGENDARY QUEST.
With less than a couple of weeks to go, Juniku looks back at her humble beginnings and the people she looked up to that led her to the biggest match of her young career.
“I was 8 years old and started fighting at the age of 9, I’ve been training Muay Thai for almost 10 years,” Juniku said.
“A neighbor next door suggested it, and I have been hooked to it since. I looked up a lot to the Thai fighters such as Buakaw and Saenchai, their style and power and technique is amazing. I decided to turn it into a career when I started beating adults especially still being a teenager.”
Having won the Australian WBC and IPCC Muay Thai Titles with her previous promotions, Juniku felt that this title will be the key for everyone around the world to recognize her as a prominent Muay Thai practitioner.
Though this would be the first time she would be competing in 4-ounce gloves, it will not deter her from giving the best performance of her life in order to wear the golden strap at the end of the night.
“Winning this world title would mean the world to me! If I win this title it’ll put my name up there and will definitely set me up for the future,” Juniku said.
“I’m excited to fight for the title against Stamp! Although MMA gloves are new to me so I just have to adjust my technique a little, I’m excited to try new things and step out of my comfort zone.”
With an impressive 24-4-0 record, Juniku believes it is her mentality of performing at the highest level that truly sets her apart from the competition. She believes that this mindset will allow her to bring 100% in her upcoming match against Stamp. She is looking forward to sharing the stage with an athlete that she considers one of the best.
“Fighting at a high level will keep me pumped especially in training, I’ll have a purpose and will train hard to be the best,” Juniku concluded.
“Stamp Fairtex is a strong and technical fighter, it’ll be a good hard fight and I’m very excited to be stepping in with the best.”
