McLaren Honda team driver Fernando Alonso declared that he was ready for action in the Petronas Malaysian Formula One Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuit this weekend after recovering from a concussion in a February testing crash, in Spain.
Alonso was knocked out in a crash at the Circuit de Catalunya and due to that, he was forced to sit out the 2015 Australian GP two weeks ago in Melbourne.
The Spaniard said he was very excited to be back into the race and provide a substantial contribution to his team and accelerate the required improvement on track performance.
"I lost consciousness in the ambulance or clinic at the circuit, but the doctors said this was normal because the medication that they put you under for the transportation and the checks that they do in the hospital and MRI and evaluation needs this protocol and medication.
"...I remember the accident and I remember everything the following day. Obviously, with the team I have been working very closely. Last week in the factory there was some work on the simulator to try to explain the new sensors and new parts that will go into this race," he told reporters during a press conference here today.
Alonso said he believes the Mclaren (team) had taken every precaution to ensure that the car was safe for the race in Sepang this weekend.
"I fully trust the team and they have been one month looking at every component of the car, simulating the effects, doing so many tests and changing every single part that they had doubts about.
"I feel we have the safest car right now because we thought they start as they did, and probably after one month I am the most checked driver, medically, in history. We should be fine," he said.
Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team driver Lewis Hamilton won the 2015 Australian F1 Grand Prix with his team mate Nico Rosberg coming in second while Scuderia Ferrari team's Sebastian Vettel was third.
