Aussie rules at 2013 Masters
THE trio of Aussies, headed by this year’s eventual 2013 Masters playoff winner Adam Scott made it a tournament to remember for the Land Down Under. After coming close by coming second in 2011 (with fellow Aussie Jason Day – who finished third here), Scott, 32, beat Argentine Angel Cabrera at the second playoff hole.
Both Scott and Cabrera had finished regulation play on a four-day total of 279. Scott had scores of 69, 72,69 and 69 compared to Cabrera’s 71,69,69 and 70. Scott finished regulation first by birdying the 18th. Undistracted, Cabrera, himself the 2009 Masters winner matched that with a birdie of his own at the last to force the birdie. It was not to be though as Scott birdied the second playoff hole to make this a day to remember as yet another day of great Australian sporting triumph.
The Aussie success was cemented by countrymen Jason Day who finished third with Marc Leishman tied for fourth with tournament favourite Tiger Woods.
A notable name for the future has to be Chinese amateur Guan Tianlang who finished his debut Masters with a 75 cementing his reputation further with the title of youngest non-professional to make the cut at a Major. Even Woods does not own that honour, so expect to hear more of this young man.
