Badrul Hisham Burhanuddin arrived here safely on Saturday after cycling approximately 11,000 kilometres over the past five months from London.
The 24-year-old, who graduated with a Masters degree in mechanical engineering from Sheffield University in United Kingdom last July, arrived at the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex here at around 3pm yesterday.
He was met upon arrival at the border by his father, Burhanuddin Mohd Alipiah, 53, mother Rapiah Ibrahim, 62, and other family members.
The second of three siblings, who hails from Klang, Selangor, said he spent eight hours a day riding his bicycle to cover a distance of 100-kilometres a day, traversing 18 countries, including England, France, Iran, Turkey, Vietnam and Thailand, before reaching Malaysian soil.
He embarked on the mission, said Badrul is aimed at raising funds for orphanages and the Palestinians in Gaza.
So far, he said he had managed to raise RM3,500 for the purpose.
Badrul said he faced many challenges to complete the mission, including having fell victim to kidnapping and robbery attempts in Turkey and Thailand.
"I also suffered food poisoning and almost gave up, but the strong support from my family kept me going. "Alhamdulillah (All praises be to Allah), I managed to complete the mission.
After this, I plan to cycle my way to Mount Everest to prove a Malaysian's ability to create a success story," he added.
