Bag two gold, one silver on second day of wushu competition
The national wushu squad were on a roll on the second day of the wushu competition of the 3rd Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG), winning two gold and a silver at the Jakabaring Gymnasium Stadium near here Sunday.
National back up wushu exponent, Wong Weng Son beat a field of six competitors in the Chang Quan men's individual event to pick up the first gold with 9.64 points, just 0.01 points ahead of compatriot Khaw Jun Lim, who had to settle for the silver.
The bronze was won by Iran's Ehsan Peyghambri who obtained 9.61 points.
The other gold medal was contributed by Loh Ying Ting in the women's event of the same which saw a field of five competitors.
She secured 9.65 points while the silver went to Hanieh Rajabi of Iran (9.64 points). Nafiseh Poorganji, also from Iran, picked up the bronze after collecting 9.63 points.
Wong said he had not set any medal target in the event.
"I did not expect to clinch the first gold for Malaysia in wushu today," he told Bernama.
He said the competition was not as tough because of the absence of Asian giants like China and South Korea but hoped the win would serve as a boost for him when he competed in the Myanmar SEA Games in December.
