The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) today agreed to renew the contract of men's singles coach Hendrawan, says acting president Tan Sri Mohamed Al Amin Abdul Majid.
"The Executive Committee meeting today also agreed to renew the contracts of other coaches expiring at the end of this year.
"The contract extension for Hendrawan is for two years and it is similar for the others," he said in a press conference after a presentation of BAM incentives to Olympic medalists at Juara Stadium, Bukit Kiara today.
On the proposed reshuffle and improvement of the Coaching and Training Committee, the Exco had also discussed it and agreed in principle.
Mohamed Al Amin said the BAM was trying to increase the number of coaches.
"We are looking at various categories...men's singles, men's doubles and so on. We will also be breaking up the coaching structure," he added.
Meanwhile BAM honourary secretary, Ng Chin Chai said BAM needs 12 coaches.
The additional coaches are to handle the singles players, not specifically for the men's or women's categories.
"We have given the mandate to the technical director (Morten Frost)," he said.
Asked if it involved local or foreign coaches, Chin Chai said it had not been decided as it depended on their availability. - BERNAMA
