Basketball must become a sport for all races

Basketball, a sport dominated by the Chinese in the country, should be turned into a 1Malaysia sport through participation of all races.

The Prime Minister's Special Functions Officer, Datuk Latt Shariman Abdullah said the Malays and Indians must also take up the sport to ensure representation from all races.

"The move will help enhance unity among the various races. I am sure the Chinese community will welcome such an initiative," said Latt who is also the Kuala Kedah Umno Division head after presenting prizes to winners of the Kuala Kedah Umno Division Head Trophy Basketball League at Sekolah Rendah Sin Min, Simpang Empat, on Saturday night.

The league, held for the first time, saw 12 teams from the Kuala Kedah constituency take part.

In the final, Taman Bunga Raya beat Taman Simpang Jaya 85-82 in closely fought match, to take home the trophy and RM1,000 cash while Taman Simpang Jaya received RM500.
