Malaysia's top mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying's hopes of lifting their very first Maybank Malaysian Open Super Series 2013 title before the home fans were dashed when they lost to Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Christinna Pedersen of Denmark in the final at the Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil here Sunday.
It was all the more disappointing when the top seeds lost in straight sets of 13-21 and 18-21 to the Danes, who are the second seeds, in just 45 minutes.
"I think we could have played better ... we lost because we were overeager to finish them off especially in the second set
"There is a lot more for us to learn especially from the top mixed doubles pairs in the world in order to be as good as them," Chan told reporters after the match.
Sharing his sentiments, Goh said: "We made a lot of mistakes today... we tried to recover in the second set but failed to catch up with them. I will be undergoing physiotherapy after this to speed up recovery of my leg injury before playing in the German Open and the All-England next," she said.
