National men's shuttlers, especially Datuk Lee Chong Wei, should bounce back stronger in a bid to clinch the desired gold medal at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, come August.
National singles' coach Tey Seu Bock said despite the team's defeat to Denmark in the Thomas Cup semifinals, the players should not give up hope, but instead must learn from their mistakes and do better next time.
"Maybe the pressure was too much because their schedules were tight and the time to prepare for the Thomas Cup was too short.
"They had a chance to advance to the final. Everyone felt the pressure...but past is past. After this, the focus of every player is the Olympics," he told reporters upon arrival with the national badminton squad at the KL International Airport here Monday night.
Meanwhile, the coach said all quarters should accept Chong Wei's decision not to play in the 2018 Thomas Cup.
"Chong Wei's focus now is on the Olympic Games, we have to take into account the age and injury factors. If he has no injuries, maybe he is okay (to play in 2018 Thomas Cup).
"But for now, let him focus on the Olympics," he said.
Denmark created history by winning the prestigious Thomas Cup for the first time after defeating Indonesia 3-2 on Sunday.
The last time Malaysia won the title was in 1992.
