The coveted crown of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Superseries Finals is within Malaysian badminton hero Datuk Lee Chong Wei's reach.
Chong Wei, 31, booked his berth in the final after overcoming Denmark's Jan O Jorgensen, 21-14, 21-16, a victory that brought cheer to the more than 1,000 spectators at the Kuala Lumpur Badminton Stadium here today.
"Today, I was more focused. I wanted to make sure that there would be at least a Malaysian in the final tomorrow, so I upped my game and played more aggresively than yesterday," he told reporters after the match.
The world number one however admitted that he had to be careful not to fall into the old habit of losing his focus when he was leading a game, as well as when he was on the verge of winning one.
In the semifinal match today, during the second set, a momentary lapse of concentration almost dragged him into the rubber set.
Jorgensen took advantage to narrow down the points from 11-18 to 16-18 before Chong Wei stirred back into action and finished the game for good.
"I admit this is not good, I have to make improvements," Chong Wei said apologetically.
Chong Wei is to face the winner of tonight's match between Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia and Kenichi Tago of Japan in the final tomorrow.
