In the men's singles competition, world number one Datuk Lee Chong Wei lived up to his top billing by strolling past India's Sourabh Varma 21-9, 21-6.
Chong Wei will meet India's Kashyap Parupalli in the quarterfinals Friday, the fourth time both will be meeting since the Indian player came on stage.
"As I said before I am just enjoying the game. So, I am not expecting anything specific (for Friday's match). I am just going to enjoy it," said Chong Wei.
Following Chong Wei's footsteps was the women's double pair Vivian Hoo Kah Mun/Woon Khe Wei who beat Thailand's Duanganong Aroonkesorn/Kunchala Voravichitchaikul 14-21, 21-18, 21-14 to move on.
"Hopefully tomorrow they can pull off an upset," he said. Meanwhile, mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon/Lai Pei Jing disposed South Korea's Shin Baek Choel/Eom Hye Won 21-15, 21-10.
Meanwhile, the only men's doubles pair that remained in the competition, Goh V Shem/Lim Khim Wah lost 18-21, 21-15, 16-21 to South Korea's Ko Sung Hyun/Shin Baek Choel after an intense three-set thriller which lasted 53 minutes.
"It is not so good thus far. All our men's double pairs lost already," doubles coach Rosman Razak told Bernama after the fourth pair was shown the exit at the Siri Fort Sports Complex here, Thursday.
Yesterday Mohd Zakry Abdul Latiff/Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari lost to Japanese pair Kamura Takeshi/Sonada Keigo while Tan Boon Heong/Ow Yao Han lost to Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen.
