Goals by Nasri (39 min) and Kompany (49) gave their manager Manuel Pellegrini his maiden English title. The club amassed 86 points from 38 games scoring 100 goals, registering a mighty goal difference of (+ 65).
So great was their firepower that second placed finisher, Liverpool, needed to win by 13 clear goals in their last game against Newcastle; to nip them to the line provided City could only manage a draw.
Liverpool did their best though, knowing even a victory would not be enough to wrest top spot from the boys in blue. The Scousers won 2-1 at Anfield, recovering from an early own goal against Newcastle.
The team from Tyneside did not do their cause any good as they had two players sent off; their longest-serving player Shola Ameobi for unnecessary dissent.
Chelsea finished third, looked like losing to Cardiff – which already had sealed its demotion last week – only to score 2 to win against Vincent Tan’s team from Wales.
Arsenal finished comfortably in fourth, winning by two goals against Norwich, guaranteeing a place in Europe next season.
Norwich, Fulham and Cardiff all confirmed their drop, finishing with 33, 31 and 30 points respectively.
