National track cycling ace Mohd Azizulhasni Awang won a bronze medal in the Keirin event but there was no joy for flag bearer Fatehah Mustapa after losing her footing in the race for third placing.
Azizulhasni or more popularly known as 'Pocket Rocketman' for his burst of speed in the Keirin, was expected to be among the front runners for the gold medal at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, today.
Australian Matthew Glaetzer took the gold while Sam Webster from New Zealand had to be contended with a silver.
"My target was to win the gold medal and was confident of achieving the result but when the results were up on the board, I saw myself in third placing.
I hope everyone will be satisfied with the bronze," Azizulhasni told Malaysian reporters here today.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian contingent's flag bearer Fatehah could only manage fourth placing at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome when she was relegated for not holding her line during the final sprint despite winning the first round race off against Jess Varnish from England.
The gold medal in the event was won by Stephanie Morton from Australia while her team mate Anna Meares took the silver.
