The Kelantan state sports council wants compulsory dope tests to be carried out at every state or national level competitions.
Kelantan Sports Council chairman Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub said such tests were necessary to curb the usage of drugs among athletes.
"Compulsory dope tests, not just random dope tests must be carried out at every competition to wipe out the menace," he told reporters at the Kelantan Sports Council's Aidilfitri function, here, today.
He was commenting on a Kelantan reserve player who had allegedly tested positive during a dope test carried out during the FA Cup final against Johor Darul Takzim, in June.
Ahmad Jazlan who is also Machang Member of Parliament said stiff competition among athletes to represent their team or state, could be among reasons why athletes decide to use performance enhancing drugs.
"Since competition for places in club teams or state teams is very stiff, some players may use performance enhancing drugs. It could be widely used but only that sports associations are not aware or not able to trace," he said.
He also urged sports associations to be firm in their action against athletes who are found guilty of using performance enhancing drugs.
