Denmark’s Hans-Kristian Vittinghus believes his team has an equal chance against Malaysia in the Thomas Cup semifinals tonight.
Vittinghus emerged a hero for the Danes last night after delivering the winning point, beating Japan’s Riichi Takeshita, 23-21, 21-17, to push aside the defending champions and set up tonight’s encounter with Malaysia.
For Vittinghus, Denmark and Malaysia each have their unique strengths, and as 8-time runners-up in the tournament, the Danes won’t bow down easily.
"For me, it's 50-50 as both teams are playing well.
"However, I do feel Denmark has a slight edge, and we will be ready to pounce on any errors by the Malaysians," he said.
Malaysia’s prospects of reach the finals?
The last time Malaysia met Denmark in the semifinals was 2006 in Sendai, Japan where the Danes emerged victorious, 3-2.
