MALAYSIAN lightweight athlete Ev “ET” Ting is buzzing ahead of his promotional return versus Singapore’s Amir Khan at ONE: EDGE OF GREATNESS.
The former ONE Lightweight World Title contender admits this chance has arrived at the perfect time, and he plans to leave enemy territory with an impression on Friday, 22 November.
However, he stresses it will be no easy task despite Khan’s recent form.
“We are both trying to come back from a couple of losses, and we are trying to rebuild ourselves from there,” the 30-year-old said.
“It’s a great time for us to match up against one another for a couple of reasons. The number one being the chance to see who’s ahead and how far we’ve come since our last outing.”
Ting was on a two-match losing streak, being submitted by Shinya Aoki before losing to Turkey’s knockout king Saygid Guseyn Arslanaliev in February 2019.
In July, the Auckland MMA athlete returned to winning ways in style, scoring a comeback win against Daichi Abe in Kuala Lumpur. But as impressive as the victory was, Ting believes otherwise.
“In my head, I lost that fight to Daichi. I came close to defeat in the first round, but somehow I hung on,” he said.
“This is why I think this would be a really interesting match. I just want to see how much stronger I can come back.”
With the bout less than a week away, the Auckland-based martial artist is game to take on one of the most talented Singaporean martial artists of all time.
Aware that Khan might return to the Circle with a renewed desire, Ting is prepared in every department, at the same time promising a few surprises.
“I’ve seen him training super hard. He does well with his ground game, but I haven’t seen him attack on the ground. However, his defense in that department is good,” Ting said.
“But I’ve been training equally hard too, and I’m eager to test him in stand-up, wrestling, or on the ground. I’m prepared in all departments.”
In the meantime, ONE travels to Beijing for ONE: AGE OF DRAGONS this Saturday, 16 November.
