The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) executive committee which met today rejected Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah's decision to resign from the president's post.
"The decision made at today's meeting will be relayed to Tengku Abdullah soon," said FAM deputy president Datuk Seri Afandi Hamzah in a press conference after chairing the meeting at Wisma FAM, Kelana Jaya.
Afandi said the decision to reject Tengku Abdullah's resignation letter sent in November last year was reached unanimously as his services were still needed.
Tengku Abdullah had wanted to resign as FAM president in September last year due to the Malaysian team's poor performance in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers and the 2019 Asian Cup matches.
In another development, Afandi said the FAM had made an official application to the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) to host the 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup.
"Vietnam and Singapore have also expressed interest to play host but I hope Malaysia will be considered since they have hosted the previous tournament," he said.
