The Football Association of Selangor has turned down a lucrative offer for its defender Mohd Azrif Nasrulhaq Badrul Hisham regarded as a pillar of strength in the team's success last season.
Selangor team manager Amirudin Shari said though the offer to release him from his current contract was in the region of RM960,000, the offer was rejected due to a number of factors.
Amirudin said Mohd Azrif had already extended his contract with Selangor until Nov 30, 2017 and last week had signed the C03 Form to be included in the Selangor team that plays in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC Cup) in 2016.
Though the manager refused to reveal the name of the team that made the offer, the offer is believed to have come from a team from the South.
Amirudin in a statement Tuesday also issued a subtle warning to teams that aspire to 'fish' Mohd Azrif by saying the FAS would refer such attempts to the Football Association of Malaysia's Player Status Committee.
The former Harimau Muda A (U-23) player's splendid performance seems to have attracted a number of teams who are eager to sign him.
Mohd Azrif, 24, a product of the FAS development programme, was instrumental in Selangor winning the Malaysia Cup after a decade and finishing as runner-up in the Super League behind Johor Darul Ta'zim.
