Malaysia’s first female pro mixed martial artist (MMA) Ann 'Athena' Osman, wanted to dedicated her upcoming rematch with Singapore's Sherilyn Lim to the passengers and crew of the missing MH370 aircraft.
However, for some reason the Singaporean did not make weight resulting in the female bout between the two on March 14 (Friday), to be cancelled.
It was supposed to be a rematch after Ann lost a split decision to Sherilyn on both their ONE Fighting Championship (ONE FC) debuts in Singapore, on October 2013.
Ann, when met earlier during the weigh in event on Thursday said thinking about the unfortunate incident that has happened to the passengers and crew has driven her to fight even harder.
"If I win, I will attribute it to the passengers of this flight. It's not personal... I feel it for the passengers and crew of MH370. It gives me encouragement and more motivation to win," she told reporters.
Ann wasn't the only Sabahan fighter with the heart of gold. Last year, her coach who is also a ONE FC fighter, AJ 'Pyro' Lias Mansor had contributed his prize money to the victims of Haiyan Typhoon in the Philippines.
AJ won the National Flyweight Championship bout between fellow Malaysian, Melvin 'Overkill' Yeoh.
Meanwhile, ONE FC announced today that all but two fighters have made weight and are ready for ONE FC: War Of Nations which takes place tomorrow evening at Stadium Negara in Kuala Lumpur.
The card will be headlined by a ONE FC Welterweight World Championship bout between Brock Larson and Nobutatsu Suzuki.
Pakistani mixed martial arts legend Bashir Ahmad will be stepping up on short notice to take on Malaysia's Peter Davis.
Ahmad's star pupil, Waqar Umar, was originally slated to face Davis, but visa issues meant he would not be able to arrive in time for the event.
Ahmad, who was supposed to corner Umar, confidently volunteered to take his place. He will move up a weight class from Featherweight to Lightweight for this bout.
Andrew Leone weighed in at 58.7kg, exceeding the Flyweight limit of 56.7kg. His bout against Shinichi Kojima will now be a Catchweight contest.
Below are the weigh in results for the fights:
