Fernando Alonso: F1 not as exciting anymore

The former Ferrari driver said his love of Formula One is dwindling, as he contemplates a career in other motorsport disciplines.

The two-time drivers' champion has not challenged for the F1 title in the past two seasons, and is enduring his worst campaign in 2015 - with just one point from eight race starts in his first season back at McLaren.

Alonso said the recent rule changes in the sport had diluted his passion for F1, having been quoted earlier in July as claiming racing has become "very boring".

"I love motorsport, all the categories," the Spaniard said.

"But it's true Formula One is not exactly the same or as exciting as it was in the past, for me, to drive the cars just two or three seconds faster than a GP2 car."

Alonso said motivation was not lacking, but his grievance with Pirelli becoming the sole supplier of F1 tyres in 2011 is no secret - and one of several reasons for his disillusionment with the sport.

"Right now, there is huge motivation and a fantastic project that I am in with McLaren-Honda," said the 33-year-old, who has finished in the top-two of the drivers' championship on five occasions.

"My first go-kart was a McLaren-Honda replica and I am in a real McLaren-Honda, so I am enjoying this process of getting competitive starting from zero.

"But with no testing, with these tyres, with these limitations, with the calendar for example of next year, there is the temptation for other categories; that is true."
