Football ruckus: FAM submits report, awaits FIFA's decision
The match, held at Shah Alam Stadium was suspended at the 88th minute, with Saudi Arabia leading Malaysia 2-1.
The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has submitted its report to FIFA over the ruckus created by supporters of Harimau Malaya, who called themselves Ultras Malaya, during the match last night.
FAM deputy president Datuk Seri Afandi Hamzah said the association is working closely with Shah Alam police and match commissioner over the match last night between Malaysia and Saudi Arabia.
“FAM will wait for FIFA’s decision over the matter and it will be announced,” he said in the statement.
The match, held at Shah Alam Stadium was suspended at the 88th minute, after the Ultras Malaya group members threw smoke flares on the pitch.
Afandi said FAM viewed the matter seriously especially on the issue of safety of all involved including supporters, players and officials who were at the stadium.
The final result will be discussed by FIFA with a decision expected in the coming days.
Following the incident, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin who was at the stadium during the match, expressed his disappointment describing the incident as 'embarrassing'.
In a Twitter posting on Tuesday, Khairy blamed both the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and fans who threw the smoke flares on the Shah Alam pitch.
Based on the current schedule, Malaysia's next match in the Group A Asian qualifiers will be away against Timor Leste on October 13.
