Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) technical director Morten Frost Hansen urged national shuttlers to focus entirely on fitness.
Frost said fitness was a main factor to ensure the players performed consistently in competitive tournaments.
"It’s a very good effort that we have the National Sports Institute (ISN). Everything in the ISN is very efficient and helps athletes improve their fitness level.
"Of course I'm very serious about that (fitness)...we want to ensure the efficiency of the performance in our players. Fitness can help them to improve. This is a step in the right direction," he told reporters at the ISN, here Friday.
Frost had earlier said some players clearly lacked fitness and therefore required the players to undergo fitness training to test their level of fitness at the ISN today and next Thursday.
