The Terengganu government has rewarded weightlifter Mohd Hafifi Mansor with land and RM10,000 for winning Malaysia's first gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman said a bungalow lot in Tok Jembal will be given to Hafifi for bringing glory to the country.
"The reward is in line with the wishes of Hafifi who wants to return and serve his home state of Terengganu.
"The process of granting the land will be completed in two to three weeks and after that, we will hand it over to Hafifi.
"This will realise Hafifi's wish to return and become a weightlifting coach in Terengganu," he told reporters after welcoming Hafifi at Sultan Mahmud Airport, here today.
Hafifi, 24, who was given a hero's welcome on arrival was also paraded in a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle from the airport to Kuala Terengganu city.
Razif said the state government would Hafifi set up a weighlifting training centre to help train local weightlifters.
Hafifi's success also proves that Terengganu is capable of producing weightlifters with big potential.
The state government is also willing to provide facilities so that Hafifi can achieve more success in weightlifting, including at the Olympic Games.
