Stamp Fairtex’s search to become a three-sport World Champion gets underway at ONE: DREAMS OF GOLD on Friday, 16 August.
The ONE Atomweight Kickboxing and Muay Thai World Champion will challenge India’s Asha “Knockout Queen” Roka in a three-round mixed martial arts tilt at Bangkok’s Impact Arena.
Despite the possibility of going up against some of the toughest women at The Home of Martial Arts in the mixed martial arts atomweight division, Stamp remains adamant about her quest.
“There are a lot of really talented women in my division, and it is going to take a while to get to the top. Hopefully, in about three or four fights, I’ll be ready for a World Title challenge,” Stamp noted.
“My goal is to also become a mixed martial arts World Champion with ONE Championship.”
Stamp has only tested herself once in this discipline, and it resulted in a 19-second knockout win by head kick in July 2018.
She is aware that there is so much more room for improvement in her mixed martial arts arsenal but admits that she has fallen in love with the sport.
“I’ve been practicing mixed martial arts for two years now, and I feel like it is time to test my skills on a bigger stage. I like the diversity of the sport, and the new challenge it presents for me,” the 21-year-old athlete revealed.
“I’m not 100-percent comfortable in mixed martial arts yet, but when an opportunity like this comes along, you just have to take it.”
Her opponent boasts a perfect 4-0 record with all wins coming by way of first-round finishes.
“Knockout Queen” has knockout power in her fists, but she is adept on the ground too – something which could bother Stamp when they lock horns.
But Stamp dismissed claims that she might not have any skills on the canvas saying, “I am more comfortable standing, so I want to keep the fight in my comfort zone, but will be ready to take the fight to the ground if need be.”
Whether it is her punches or kicks, Stamp always guarantees a martial arts clinic. She has already sprinted toward two World Championships, and this could be the start of a third.
