BIRMINGHAM: The national lawn bowls combination of Siti Zalina Ahmad and Emma Firyana Saroji kept up their solid performance in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games when they recorded their second group win in the women's pairs event today.
The Malaysians, who are on a mission to defend the gold medal they won in the 2018 edition in Gold Coast, Australia, had no problems brushing aside Matapa Puia-Nooroa Mataio of Cook Islands 22-6 at Victoria Park, Leamington Spa here.
Siti Zalina-Emma Firyana are set to face siblings Rebecca Louise Rixon-Connie-Leigh Rixon of Malta before completing their group fixtures against Shae Wilson-Carmen Anderson of Norfolk Island tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Fairul Izwan Abd Muin also recorded his second win after defeating Fiji's Semesa Naiseruvati 21-14 in men's singles.
The 39-year-old Malaysian will next take on Carel Aron Olivier of Namibia and England's Jamie Walker in the group stage tomorrow.
Nur Ain Nabilah Tarmizi, Syafiqa Haidar Afif Abdul Rahman and Azlina Arshad, however, were made to slog by Canadians Jennifer Macdonald, Leanne Chinery and Kelly McKerihen before prevailing 18-17 in women's triples.
