AMERICA’s Janet Todd is going all out in her pursuit of another shot at the prestigious ONE World Championship belt.
Next up for Todd would be a duel against the former ONE Atomweight Kickboxing World Champion 'Killer Bee' Chuang Kai Ting at ONE: MASTERS OF DESTINY in Kuala Lumpur on 12 July.
This bout marks her third ONE Championship appearance in five months, and as tiring as it sounds, Todd described it as the perfect learning curve for every athlete.
“The more frequently I can get in there, the better,” the two-time Pan-American Muay Thai Champion shared.
“It’s also performing under pressure. You don’t get that same kind of pressure in the gym. It’s cool to be in complete control of your body under that kind of pressure. I like that aspect of it.”
She’s no stranger to pressure having been thrown straight into World Title contention against reigning two-sport ONE World Champion Stamp Fairtex in February.
Todd impressed throughout the five-round contest, but Stamp’s close-range weapons and striking versatility proved to be the turning point of this contest.
Her second appearance at The Home of Martial Arts proved to be a different affair as she scored a TKO win against Wang Chin Long, Chuang’s teammate at Iron Boxing Gym.
“I carry lessons not just from that fight but the previous fights, too,” the 33-year-old Todd explained.
“I like to be in better control of the space in the ring. I know Kai Ting comes from the same gym as the last girl I fought, and they have a lot of movement, so I want to make sure I’m in control.”
Todd is well-aware of her opponent’s striking but admitted that she has tirelessly worked on her guard game at California’s Boxing Works in the lead up to this match.
“Of course, Kai Ting has very fast and quick hands. I think that’s one of her advantages.”
“I realized I need to work on my blocking after the Stamp fight, so I’m incorporating those types of things in my training this time around.
“I may or may not be as quick as her, but I know when I throw my punches, I’m precise and I do throw with power.”
