Super League defending champions Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) failed to capitalise on home ground advantage after playing to a 1-1 draw against Perak in their fourth Group C Malaysia Cup match at the Tan Sri Hassan Yunos Stadium in Larkin last night.
The draw gave Perak the edge to emerge as group leader on better goal difference despite sharing seven points with Police.
JDT, cheered on by 20,675 spectators at the Larkin Stadium were in fact shocked by Perak who took the lead in the third minute from a freekick by Uzbek import, Oybek Kilichev.
JDT captain, Safiq Rahim equalised in the 15th minute from a penalty when an attempt struck the hand of a Perak player.
In another match, PKNS FC garnered their first win in their Malaysia Cup campaign by defeating Police 1-0 at the Hang Jebat Stadium, in Melaka via Shahurain Abu Samah's 28th minute goal.
Police suffered another blow when Abd Latiff Suhaimi was shown the red card by referee Syed Azhar Syed Kamar in the dying minutes of the match for a second yellow card offence.
The leaders of Group A and B, Kedah and Kelantan had already booked their berths to the quarter-finals of the Malaysia Cup with two matches to spare after collecting 10 points each.
