Jin Wei's hopes of defending World Junior crown evaporate in Spain

World Junior champion Goh Jin Wei failed to defend her crown after losing to her Japanese opponent in the fifth round of the World Junior Championships in Spain today.
Jin Wei, the tournament favourite who was tipped to make an impact in the championships lost to Japan's Natsuki Oie, 21-10, 16-21, 16-21 in a match that went the distance.
However, Lee Zii Jia who played in men's junior competition and junior men's doubles pair Leong Jun Hao/Ooi Zi Heng displayed sizzling performances to move into the quarterfinals according to the tournament website www.bwf.tournamentsoftware.com.
Zii Jia who is the second seed in the competition disposed Jason Anthony Ho Shue from Canada 21-14, 21-13 to set up a quarterfinal date with Toma Junior Popov from France.
Popov defeated Kodai Naraoka from Japan 21-17, 21-18 in another fifth round match while Jun Hao-Zi Heng beat Sheng Chieh/Lu Chen from Taiwan 21-17, 21-11.
The duo will face China's Han N Chengkai/Zhou Haodong who beat Russia's Rodion Alimov/Pavel Kotsarenko 21-12, 21-14. -- BERNAMA
