“SMOKIN” Jo Nattawut must put in a career-best performance if he wants to advance into the ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Grand Prix final.
With that in mind, the Nakhon Ratchasima native revealed that he has a plan in store ahead of his bout against Italy’s Giorgio “The Doctor” Petrosyan at ONE: DREAMS OF GOLD at Bangkok’s Impact Arena on Friday, 16 August.
“I plan to keep it simple and perfect the little things,” the Thai martial artist revealed ahead of his semifinal duel against one of the greatest kickboxers of all time.
“I didn’t prepare anything special. I am just keeping it basic and making sure I am in the best possible shape.”
Simplicity is the key to the Bangkok Boxing representative, but he knows that will be not enough to power him past his Milan foe in their second meeting.
In their first encounter, Petrosyan’s aptness to attack with a variety of techniques and pure accuracy outclassed Nattawut over three rounds.
But since then, the Two-division Lion Fight World Champion and WMC Muay Thai World Champion has been on a hot streak of four wins in ONE Championship.
“I’m excited about the rematch, I’ve been wanting this fight for a while now,” the 29-year-old athlete said.
“I didn’t think too much about the first fight [during my preparation] – he was the better fighter that night – but this time around, I am more prepared and better trained. I’ll be bringing a better version of myself.”
His appetite to redeem himself in this match is clear, and a win will put him in the elite list of only two people who have defeated the Italian-Armenian superstar.
The winner of this rematch will take on the victor in the other ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Grand Prix semifinals, a match-up between Frenchman Samy “AK47” Sana and Russia’s “Genghis Khan” Dzhabar Askerov.
Then, the two finalists will square off at ONE: CENTURY in Tokyo, Japan on Sunday, 13 October.
