Kelantan Federal Action Council chairman Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed has urged the Kelantan state government to rescue the Kelantan Football Association (KAFA).
"Tan Sri Annuar Musa (former KAFA president) has laid a strong foundation and now, its time for the state government to take over.
"The state government should aid KAFA financially for the future of Kelantan football," he told reporters after attending a programme with heads of departments and agencies under the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, here Sunday.
Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his deputy, Datuk Hamim Samuri attended with some 200 local leaders.
Newspapers reported that KAFA needs about RM15 million to compete in the Malaysian Football League (M-League) next season.
It is understood that KAFA has only collected RM800,000, being the contribution made by petty traders in the state.
Final decision whether Kelantan will withdraw from the M-League next season will be made at the KAFA extraordinary congress to be held on Dec 29.
Meanwhile, Kelantan Football Supporters Club president Mahizi Mahmood hopes the state government would aid KAFA for the sake of Kelantan football.
He also looked forward to the participation of corporate leaders to help raise funds to keep the Kelantan flag flying. --Bernama
