Khairul Hafiz misses out on 100m final in World Under-20 Athletics Championships

National junior sprinter Khairul Hafiz Jantan failed to make it to the 100-metre final of the World Under-20 Athletics Championships in Poland early Thursday.
Khairul Hafiz, who was in the third of the semi-final races held at 1.34am (Malaysian time) in Bydgoszcz, ended the run in eighth position in 10.58 seconds.
To qualify for the final, he should have been among the six best finishers.
The two athletes who finished first and second in that race, Tlotliso Leotlela of South Africa (10.20s) and Paolo Andre de Oliveira of Brazil (10.32s), qualified for the final.
According to the website of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), Khairul Hafiz was in 21st position with his run of 10.58s.
In the heats on Wednesday, Khairul Hafiz performed well to enter the semi-final by finishing second in the second heat on 10.44s, behind Oliveira who clocked 10.31s.
Another Malaysian athlete, Badrul Hisyam Abdul Manap, failed to make it to the semi-final when he managed only the fifth position in the fourth heat with a time of 10.66s.
