Four individuals have been nominated for the hot seat in a slated to be a fierce competition to take the helm of the national football organisation.
Football Association of Malaysia’s (FAM) secretary general Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin confirmed this to Stadium Astro, today.
"The names that have received the nomination for the presidency, as we had expected, are Minister of Youth and Sports, Khairy Jamaluddin; Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim; Tan Sri Aseh Che Mat; and Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
“We will make the confirmation before January 20 whether they really want to compete," Hamidin said.
It is now up to the affiliates or representatives to choose one viable candidate to replace Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, he added.
Meanwhile, sports analyst Rizal Hashim expressed his opinion over Khairy Jamaluddin's nomination which he said is unfair.
"In my opinion, as a member of the Cabinet, Khairy Jamaluddin is not suitable to be elected as president of FAM. We need a president who is capable of providing full-time commitment while on duty," he said.
Another analyst Hasnizam Uzir said: "As a president, he needs to have a firm stand and able to provide ideas to improve the quality of our football."
