Kian Meng-Pei Jing's fairytale run in Taiwan Open comes to an end

The fairytale run of National mixed doubles pair Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing in the Taiwan Open came to an end when they lost to Zheng Siwei/Chen Qingchen of China in the finals today.
The couple who had produced a superb performance in the semifinals to beat Indonesia's Ricky Widianto/Gloria Emanualle Widjaja yesterday, failed to maintain the momentum and lost 18-21, 16-21 to the Chinese pair in 35 minutes at the Taipei Arena, Taiwan.
According to the Badminton World Federation (BWF) website, Chinese shuttlers were in action in all the finals contested in the USD200,000 (RM798,300) Taiwan Open Grand Prix tournament which ended today.
China won the women's doubles in an All-Chinese affair, Zheng Siwei/Chen Qingchen clinched the mixed doubles title while Li Junhui/Liu Yuchen won the men's doubles title by beating Chen Hung Ling/Wang Chi-Lin from Taiwan.
Two other finals that also featured finalists from China - men's singles and women's singles - were won by players from the host country.
In the men's final, Chou Tien Chen beat Qiao Bin from China 21-18, 21-17 while world number two Tai Tzu Ying upset world number one Wang Shixian from China 23-21, 21-6 to win the women's singles.
