FORMER ONE Atomweight Kickboxing World Champion 'Killer Bee' Chuang Kai Ting is ready to fly her way back to the gold.
The Chinese star knows defeating American Muay Thai sensation Janet 'JT' Todd at ONE: MASTERS OF DESTINY on Friday, 12 July will be pivotal in getting her there.
“Of course, I have confidence in myself. I believe I have made some progress since I’ve focused on training my kicks,” she shared.
“Also, I believe I developed a more mature mind than before – I know how to control my pace and do exactly what I want to in the ring.”
The 24-year-old proved she was no pushover by defeating multiple-time Muay Thai World Champion Yodcherry Sityodtong via unanimous decision to claim the inaugural ONE Atomweight Kickboxing World Title in her promotional debut just one year ago.
Her reign only lasted for three months, however, as Stamp Fairtex edged out the Chinese athlete to capture the belt in October.
Chuang hasn’t competed since then, primarily due to hand injuries. But now that she is healthy, she intends to display her fine-tuned striking and make a run back to the World Title.
“As you know, this time I have been working on my skills, so I will show you what I have been working on,” she said.
“I have enjoyed preparing for this fight, and I believe I can put on a really good performance, so it will be an exciting bout.”
There is also added motivation for her in the lead-up to this three-round kickboxing contest.
In Todd’s last encounter, she defeated Chuang’s teammate Wang Chin Long via TKO in the second round.
That loss remains close to her heart as “Killer Bee” described Wang as a family member.
“[Wang] is younger than me, I call her my sister in my team, and she didn’t have a lot of experience,” Chuang explained. “When I watched her fight, I felt like I could get revenge for her. We are like family, so I will fight for her and the team.”
Despite the appetite to make a winning return, the three-time WAKO Kickboxing Champion will keep Todd’s silky combinations on her radar.
“She is a really good fighter, I have watched her fights, and her physique is incredible. Her combinations are really good, and her rear kick is very good, too,” Chuang added. “She is a great fighter, but I have confidence in myself, too. Anything is possible.”
