Liu Ying sets sights on Super Series, World Championships

National and Olympics silver Goh Liu Ying has set her sights on the Super Series tournament and World Badminton Championships next year, to improve her career in representing the country at international level.
As such, the 27-year-old , who underwent operations for both knees in 2014, said she would not think whether or not she could make it to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
"I had actually planned to retire after the operations on both my knees, but since they were recovering well, I will continue to play," she told a press conference here Friday.
Also present were Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron and his wife Datin Seri Fadilah Abdullah, as well as Liu Ying's family members, who had been invited by Idris for breakfast at earlier.
Liu Ying, who paired with Chan Peng Soon in the mixed doubles' event at the Rio Olympics recently, would begin training on Monday.
"I have to train hard starting Monday because there are many competitions after this," she said.
Meanwhile, Idris said the state government would give priority to the Melaka-born to apply for two plots of land near Tehel, Jasin.
"We have allowed her to do so and will approve (the application) if she applies for it," he said, adding that the incentive was a symbol of appreciation the state government to Liu Ying, who helped bagged one of the three silver medals won by Malaysia in badminton events at the Rio Olympics.
