Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) booked the last semifinal berth in the Malaysia Cup tournament after defeating Terengganu 3-1 in the quarter-final second leg match at the Tan Sri Hassan Yunos Stadium in Larkin here tonight.
The first leg match in Kuala Terengganu had ended in a goalless draw.
National striker Safiq Rahim was the toast of JDT when he netted a brace with his goals coming in the 15th and 74th minutes while Luciano Gabriel Figueroa's scored their second in the 21st minute.
The Southern Tigers wasted no time in poaching for goals but had to wait till the 15th minute for the first goal when Safiq nodded home a cross supplied by Mohd Nazrin Mohd Nawi past Terengganu keeper Mohd Sharbinee Allawee.
Figueroa then doubled the score in the 21st minute after receiving a fine cross from Mohd Amri Yahyah.
After the break, The Turtles sought to make amends and were rewarded when there was a lapse in JDT's defence in the 60th minute.
Mohd Ashari Samsudin made a dazzling solo run through the defenders before putting the ball in the net.
But it was not to be, Safiq then sealed victory for JDT when assisted by Amri, he found the net again in the 74th minute.
