Malaysia demolished Singapore 5-0 in their last Group A match to book their ticket to the semifinals of the 17th Asean Universities Games (AUG) at Stadium Bumi Sriwijaya here on Saturday.
The squad coached by Azuan Zain drew first blood as early as the seventh minute when Mohd Hasrul Nurkholis fired home a piledriver.
Hasrul was on target again in the 29th minute when Singapore keeper Pierson Anghong Xiang found himself off position.
Malaysia's three other goals came in the second half via Raslam Khan Abdul Rashid (57th) and Mohamad Syafiq Mokhtar (75th) before Mohd Hasrul created a hattrick with his third coming in added time.
Malaysia, who emerged runners-up in the group, will meet Indonesia in the cross-over semifinals at the Jakabaring Stadium on Monday.
When met by reporters after the match, Azuan said: " I am very satisfied with the result. A draw would have been good enough for us but the boys showed determination to not only win, but win big."
