Malaysian shuttlers had to dig deep into their reserves to edge India 3-2 in the ongoing BWF World Junior Mixed Team Championships 2014 (Suhadinata Cup) at the Sultan Abdul Halim Stadium here on Tuesday.
Women's doubles pair Goh Yea Ching/Peck Yen Wei snatched the winning point after India had staged a spirited comeback from 0-2 down to level the tie at 2-2 in their Group Z 2 match.
Yea Ching-Yen Wei beat Reshma Kartik/Vaishnavi Iyer 21-18, 21-11 to give Malaysia a 3-2 win as India had won the women's singles and men's doubles matches after falling behind in the mixed doubles and men's singles matches.
Malaysia's mixed doubles pair Tan Jinn Hwa/Goh Yea Ching gave Malaysia a flying start by defeating Sen Chirag/Garg Kuhoo 21-16, 21-16 while Cheam June Wei made it 2-0 after beating Dani Harsheel 21-19, 16-21, 21-15 in three sets.
In fact debutant Yea Ching was the toast of the team as she had won both her outings, the mixed doubles and women's doubles.
"I felt a little nervous in the mixed doubles match because I was playing in the competition for the first time. But after winning the mixed doubles match I was more confident in the women's doubles match," she said.
Malaysia are expected to meet China in the quarterfinals.
