Malaysia loses appeal in wushu gold medalist expulsion

Malaysia's appeal to the Arbitration in Sport (CAS), ad hoc committee against wushu athlete Tai Cheau Xuen's disqualification was dismissed.

With the decision, Malaysia's contingent to the 17th Asian Games is forced to let go of the country's first gold medal won by the athlete on Sept 20.

On Tuesday, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) withdrew the medal after the athlete tested positive for the banned stimulant sibutramine.

Nevertheless, karate athlete Lim Chee Wei brought some cheer to counter the contingent's disappointment by winning gold in the individual kata event after defeating Indonesia's Fidelys Lolobua 3-2 at Gyeyang Gymnasium.

In this regard, Chee Wei had also defended the gold medal won by his coach Ku Jin Keat in 2010 in Guangzhou, China.

Meanwhile, karate athlete S. Raghonathan lost to Abdulaziz Ali H A from Kuwait, 2-7 in the quarter final in the men's kumite 67 kilograms event.

National diving athlete Pandelela Rinong failed to win a medal in the women's individual 10m platform event.

The men's diving team also failed to shine when Ooi Tze Liang and Ahmad Amsyar Azman completed six dives but landed in the seventh and eighth spots.

The hockey squad also lost out on the bronze medal to South Korea, 2-3 on Thursday.

The national contingent have collected four gold, 14 silver and 11 bronze to sit on the 15th spot.
