Malaysia's challenge at the 2017 Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold Badminton Tournament fizzled out after the only players standing, Vivian Hoo Kah Mun/Woon Khe Wei, lost in the quarter-finals match late Friday (Saturday in Malaysia).
Third seeded pair Hoo/Woon suffered an upset after losing 18-21, 21-8 and 15-21 to the seventh seeds, Maiken Fruergaard/Sara Thygesen of Denmark, in the women's doubles event of the tournament held at the St Jakobshalle Indoor Arena near Basel, according to the Badminton World Federation (BWF) website, www.bwfbadminton.org.
Malaysia's challenge in three other events -- the men's singles and doubles and the women's singles -- fizzled out after the players were defeated by their respective opponents in the preliminary round.
