Malaysia's top men's doubles pair, Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong will meet compatriots Koo Kien Kian and Tan Boon Heong in the quarterfinals of the 2016 All-England Badminton Championships, late Friday (early Saturday Malaysian time).

Goh/Tan pulled off a stunning upset by edging fifth seeds, Chai Biao/Hong Wei of China; winning 17-21, 24-22 and 23-21 in the second round in a match that lasted 73 minutes, according to the tournament website www.allenglandbadminton.com.

Koo/Tan, the 2007 champions beside emerging as runners-up in the 2011 edition, had earlier upset world number two men's doubles pair, Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia; 21-15, 15-21 and 21-17.

The country's challenge in three other events – men's singles, women's singles and mixed doubles fizzled out after all players lost to their respective opponents in the opening round on Wednesday.

Malaysia did not send representatives in the women's doubles event of the Super Series Premier tournament which offers a total prize money of US$550,000 (RM2.263 million).
