Malaysian trio shoot down bronze at archery World Cup
The trio of Haziq Kamaruddin, Khairul Anuar Mohamad and Muhammad Akmal Nor Hasrin beat Mexico 6-2 in the playoff for the third place.
The men's recurve team bagged the bronze medal at the 2017 Archery World Cup Stage 3 held at the Easton Salt Lake City Archery Centre in Utah, United States, on Sunday.
The trio of Haziq Kamaruddin, Khairul Anuar Mohamad and Muhammad Akmal Nor Hasrin beat Mexico 6-2 in the playoff for the third place.
The Malaysians started their campaign by upsetting hosts United States 5-4 in the first round before edging Great Britain 5-4 in the quarterfinals, but lost 1-5 to Russia in the semifinals, according to the World Archery Federation's official website worldarchery.org.
The Russian trio of Vitalii Popov, Arsalan Baldanov and Artem Makhenko beat Deng Yu-cheng, Peng Shih-cheng and Wei Chun-heng of Chinese Taipei 5-1 in the final to claim the gold.
However, in the individual men's recurve event, Malaysia only had Muhammad Akmal in the top 10 after he scored 648 points to settle in seventh place.
More than 300 archers from 40 countries took part in the world meet.
