Malaysian-born import may strengthen Sarawak
Sarawak may enlist the services of Malaysian-born Junior Eldstål currently playing in the Vauxhall Football League in England during the April transfer window, said state head coach Robert Alberts.
The player will have to undergo a one-week trial with Sarawak starting tomorrow before Alberts decides whether he will be included in the line-up.
"Junior Eldstål holds a Malaysian passport for his mother is Sabahan. I got to know his family through my contact in England.
"There are still Malaysian footballers out there, this is one of them. So, I hope he has the quality we are looking for, and if we like him we will offer him a contract," he told reporters after Sarawak beat Kedah 1-0 at the Sarawak State Stadium, Petra Jaya, last night.
Commenting on the match, Alberts said he regarded the match as dicey for Sarawak faced a strong team after a long break.
"We must have character in search of championship (titles), but our team lost the ball easily and lacked combination upfront.
"If Sarawak want to be the best team in the league, we must be sharp upfront in terms of better combination. Sadly, we didn't play like what used to do during training, I am little bit disappointed," he added.
Alberts warned the players that if they were to continue to play like last night, Sarawak would be in trouble when they meet Kelantan in their next FA Cup match on Saturday at Stadium Sultan Muhammad IV, Kota Baharu.
