Malaysians flex their muscles for Sheffield Games

More than 1,500 Malaysians residing in the United Kingdom and Ireland are expected to converge upon the King Edward School in Sheffield to take part in the 23rd annual Sheffield Malaysian Games 2015 (SMG2015) on Saturday.
Some of them made up of upcoming athletes are expected to demonstrate their skills at table tennis, football, volleyball, badminton, netball, Frisbee and cyber games. Malaysian traditional games are also expected to be a highlight at this one-of-its kind sporting event.
“The aim of the SMG 2015 is not about winning, but an avenue that binds Malaysians, mostly students living thousands of kilometers away from home,” said President of Sheffield Malaysian Students Association (SMSA) Hasnan Na’iem when met by Astro AWANI, recently.
He added that the festival is hoped to promote Malaysia to the local community.
SMG2015 also received the attention of Malaysia High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Datuk Ahmad Rashidi Hazizi who are expected to officiate the event.
A fringe food fest billed, Malaysian Food Festival will be held as part of the highlights at the event.
Launched in 1992, the Sheffield Malaysian Games is one of the largest sporting events for the Malaysian community after Nottingham Malaysian Games.
