The national men's hockey squad will defend their gold medal at the Myanmar SEA Games when they take on Singapore in the final at the Theinphyu Hockey Stadium here on Saturday.
In the final preliminary match today, the team coached by Tai Beng Hai kept their unbeaten record when they thrashed hosts Myanmar 11-0.
Singapore qualified for the final after defeating Thailand 7-1 in another preliminary match.
In the game against Myanmar, senior player Muhammad Amin Rahim was in brilliant form when he scored five goals, three of them consecutively in the 33rd, 35th and 40th minutes and later added two more goals in the 46th and 51st minutes.
Tengku Tajuddin Tengku Abdul Jalil scored a hattrick when he netted in the eighth, 25th and 53rd minutes.
Three more goals were scored by Muhammad Azammi Adabi in the fourth minute, Ahmad Kazzamirul Nasruddin in the 17th and Amir Farid Ahmad Fuzi in the 44th minute.
Beng Hai said he did not want his charges to be too comfortable and they needed to show their full strength in the final against Singapore on Saturday.
"Singapore are one of the teams which could give us a run for our money, as they are well organised and have undergone training in Australia for three weeks. It will be a tough match," he said.
