MGF to review age limit for gymnast
The Malaysian Gymnastics Federation (MGF) is expected to review the age limit for gymnasts in the Malaysian Games (Sukma) said its Honorary secretary N. Shanmugarajah.
Shanmugarajah said the age limit need to be reviewed because there were events that gymnasts at a certain age would not be able to perform due to the difficulty of the routine and regulations currently in force.
"Currently the age limit is 12 to 15 for rhythmic gymnastics and 12 to 21 for artistic gymnastics in the girls category but in the boys category the age limit is 13 to 21 for both.
"The MGF technical committee will meet next month to streamline the age limit for the 2013 SUKMA," he said.
The 16th SUKMA featuring 19 sports will be held in Kuala Lumpur from June 28 to July 7.
Shanmugarajah said artistic gymnastics will be included in 2013 (Kuala Lumpur) while only rhythmic gymnastics will be in the programme at the 2014 SUKMA in Perlis due to lack of facilities and equipment there.
